By Daniel Barron

The Draculas are a Southern California-based art duo comprised of Jeff McMillan and Gary Musgrave, and earlier this month these creatures of the night sunk their fangs into the 2016 POW! WOW! Long Beach event. Established in August of 2015, POW! WOW! Long Beach is a part of a global network of gallery events, concerts, and live installations that all began with POW! WOW! Hawaii and now extends across New Zealand, Israel, Germany, and beyond. The second annual Long Beach event also featured Andrew Hem, Cinta Vidal, Brendan Monroe, and Sean “Hula” Yoro and coincided with the launch of “Vitality & Verve: In The Third Dimension,” an exhibition currently on-view at the Long Beach Museum of Art (thru October 16th).

The following mini doc by Scott Nichols reveals time-lapse footage of The Draculas’ mural as well as enlightening commentary by McMillan and Musgrave about their preferences regarding colors, their affinity for the macabre, and even how the mural was inspired by Prince.
