On A Long Walk Out
On a long walk out
one hot summer night
I found peppered peace
taking in my time
Looking at the windows
of someone’s home.
Like tripping on mushrooms
I felt my sweat cool
listening to Oscar Peterson
fantasizing about an honest moment between friends
Something to float away on forever
spiritual
like vanilla ice cream
Or the moth in my chest
who dances when eyes twinkle
Like pink dusk
Like dinner alone
Like anger management
I tell myself Mother moon still cares for her daughter
still calls on me in her heart…
But she never does
and I pull to walk
Pick flowers
Crack bones
wait for the magic hour
Listen to the same song over and over
feel hunger
Cry.
All this for a scratch at happiness
For the king who was so generous he gave away his head
And the family members
who called on me
in dreams for a day
Undead
my happy grandmother, my happy grandfather
Their voices so real
painful to enjoy
Coated in cosmic freedom
goosebumps
Bliss
a garden
an orchard
Oh king of moonlight
Sexless rock
Carry me away on a cloud
Draw it with silver
Leave me to clutch
A lunar climax
and smell the green
I cannot wait for the night
