Artist Spotlight on the fleshy sci-fi creations of NYC-based illustrator John-Paul Kim.

by Daniel Barron

John-Paul Kim is a NYC-based illustrator and graphic designer whose affinity for gaming, graphic art, and pulpy sci-fi lend an oily organic quality to his psychedelic visions. He favors bright hues, loose lines, the flashy, the fleshy, and  figures whose bodies can barely contain themselves. Kim graduated with a degree in Illustration in 2012 from the School of Visual Arts and currently maintains the illustration series Daily Handheld, in which he visualizes handheld videogame consoles, such as the GameBoy, in a variety of bizarre and impractical incarnations.

For Yay! LA‘s Summer 2016 Yay! Legends Every Day event he interpreted the videogame series The Legend of Zelda.
